Colombo (News1st) – The National Election Commission said on Monday (13) that the Government Printer has stated that if funds are not provided ballot papers will not be printed, posing a fresh hurdle to the upcoming Local Government Elections scheduled to be held on the 9th of March.

The Government Printer didn’t immediately comment.

Opposition parties repeatedly accuse the government of trying stop the elections being held. Government officials, however, have consistently stated that there is a lack of funds due to the country’s economic situation.

A case involving the election is also currently being heard by the Supreme Court. It was scheduled to be heard on the 23rd February.
